Oil and Filter Change: Universal Guide

Oil and Filter Change: Complete Guide

The oil change is the most important maintenance you can do to extend your engine’s life.

How Often to Change Oil?

Step 1: Preparation

Warm Up the Engine

  1. Start the bike and let it warm for 3-5 minutes
  2. Warm oil flows better and carries more contaminants
  3. Turn off the engine and wait 5 minutes before draining

Step 2: Drain the Used Oil

  1. Position the motorcycle upright
  2. Locate the drain plug (bottom of the crankcase)
  3. Place container under the plug
  4. Loosen the plug counterclockwise
  5. Let it drain completely (minimum 10-15 minutes)

Step 3: Change the Oil Filter

Cartridge Type (External)

  1. Locate the filter (side of the engine)
  2. Place rags underneath
  3. Turn counterclockwise
  4. Clean the sealing surface
  5. Apply new oil to the new filter’s gasket
  6. Tighten by hand + 3/4 turn additional

Step 4: Reinstall the Drain Plug

⚠️ Don’t overtighten - you can damage the crankcase threads


Step 5: Add New Oil

  1. Remove the filler cap
  2. Use a clean funnel
  3. Add 80% of the specified amount
  4. Wait 2 minutes
  5. Check the level with dipstick or sight glass
  6. Add the rest gradually
